My first trip to London.

When I was first taken, to London Town
I constantly was looking down
“Why are you doing that? ” My Mum said to me
“Your missing all these wonderful things there are to see
Like The River Thames and the Albert Hall
Buckingham Palace and the Cathedral of St Paul
Tower Bridge, Westminster Abbey and Big Ben
If you keep looking down you will miss them.”
I replied to my Mum “I do understand
It seems odd to see nothing when a trip to London has been planned.
But there is something that I have been told
About the streets of London being paved with gold.
So I’m looking down with hope to see
A gold paving slab where a concrete one should be.”
My mum then said that I’d misunderstood
And that looking down would do me no good.
I asked my mum to explain but she simply waved her hand
And told me that someday I would understand.
She said today that London she had come to see
So she couldn’t be bothered explaining it to me.
So I bent my head down to continue my quest
And find some gold so I can be the best
But my mum was right I found no Gold at all
And I saw nothing of England’s Capital.

Hello Paul, What remarkable poems... Same the purest and sweet children's naivety, such an adventure it is impossible to forget till the end of a life. (Between other I too searched for a gold small fish in the river, in my childhood...) 10...
