Set It On Fire

Let the night expire
I set myself on fire
I ignite everything I once was and could have been
Set it off from within

My time here ended long ago
Long since past are my flesh and my bones
Who am I but the shadow I left behind

Longing to bleed, longing to breathe
Longing for these tears to mean something; anything

I have shaken the hands of men who have taken from me
And have done so with the utmost respect for them
I have held in my arms those who have broken my heart
And have done so with nothing but love for them

Say its because I'm a coward; say its because I'm brave
But as the sun is called home the 'brave' sit in the stars alone
Admire the beautiful rose locked in a case that can never be broke
All that can be done is to sit and long to hold

Everything I once was has lead me to here
And its everything I could be that keeps me here
But I set it all on fire

I have been many things but I have never been me
Believe in what you are lest you live in life's deceit
Believe in me and I'll show you all that I can be

Reach inside the need is dire
Reach inside and set yourself on fire

poet Henry Lawson

The old year went, and the new returned, in the withering weeks of drought,
The cheque was spent that the shearer earned,
and the sheds were all cut out;
