Something is coming

As evening falls
black and blue clouds are being driven by a
north wind, even though they are high
the colors are deep

blowing dust down the street
it’s almost a disturbance
chilled-brittle leaves swirling
making noise on the abrasive asphalt

two nights ago
the ashes of those gassed and burned at Auschwitz
were in my dreams

even as they sleep
these ashes are not silent
