Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
...
You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may tread me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could

Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.

The free bird leaps
on the back of the wind
and floats downstream
till the current ends

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of ANNABEL LEE;

The most important thing we've learned,
So far as children are concerned,
Is never, NEVER, NEVER let

Writing a poem is not about bringing some words together to create some charming sentences. It's so much deeper than that. Writing poetry is a bridge that allows people to express their feelings and make others live every single word they read. Poetry is to educate people, to lead them away from hate to love, from violence to mercy and pity. Writing poetry is to help this community better understand life and live it more passionately. PoemHunter.com contains an enormous number of famous poems from all over the world, by both classical and modern poets. You can read as many as you want, and also submit your own poems to share your writings with all our poets, members, and visitors.
TWO lawyers to their cause so well adhered,
A country justice quite confused appeared,
By them the facts were rendered so obscure
With which the truth remained he was not sure.
At length, completely tired, two straws he sought
Of diff'rent lengths, and to the parties brought.
These in his hand he held:--the plaintiff drew
(So fate decreed) the shortest of the two.
On this the other homeward took his way,
To boast how nicely he had gained the day.
THE bench complained: the magistrate replied
Don't blame I pray--'tis nothing new I've tried;
Courts often judge at hazard in the law,
Without deciding by the longest straw.

Tell me not, in doctored numbers,
Life is but a name for work!
For the labour that encumbers
Me I wish that I could shirk.
Life is phony! Life is rotten!
And the wealthy have no soul;
Why should you be picking cotton,
Why should I be mining coal?
...
Seen it all, heartless betrayal and rejection
Never felt quite this bored, overwhelmed with emotions
I am still red, never seemed to lose my bloom
My roots were plucked off but found their way back home
Who am l?
Brutal, hot summers, and cold winters came and passed
I lost it all, strength is the only thing l grasped
Why is it so cruel, why am l red, still, and not dead
I am a mess deep down but that ain't the case with my head

Doubt and I am called a sceptic. Every doubt is a clash of the neurons -
A flash and fire breaks out, burns. Doubt is behind every creation, every revolution,
Doubt and the kingdom breaks into pieces,
A new empire that sinks in doubt - All matter of time, during this time Doubt and the Prize as they are announced,

The Tears My Mother Never Showed
I wonder how many nights
my mother cried in silence,

A Brilliant Nephew
A nephew so bright, with a wonderful mind,
So thoughtful, so clever, so gentle and kind.

Now walking in your shoes today
I have something I wish to say:

স্বপ্নের বাগানে
ঘুম নেই আজ রাতে।

মায়ের কাছে শেখা ভাষা,
আমাদের এই বাংলা ভাষা।
The language we learned from our mother,

Never give the reins of your life
into the hands of another,
lest they pull you down
and leave you struggling to rise.

(For my second daughter)
You came after Olivia,
but never afterthought.

Civilisation shows its true face when power is close, be it a negative or positive force blood is boiling and the hormones are singing their Bacchanals. Getting an education and growing up with Decent values I discovered with the rising of my age that oft there can be found more social and moral conduct with the big boys heavy criminals than with an officer of law or policeman or bureaucrat. They never get enough, their belly truly full! Every body gets tempted with temptation which feeds idleness and lust! Be it for a better position, money, perspective, drugs or foreplay of porn games!
We all become animals, reptiles without any human brain! And like in wars, the military getting away with rape, theft and abuse protected by Nationalistic law which measures morals with a split tongued snake attitude crawling up their nursing stake or up their moral hypocrites pole. For those in contempt, being tempted or consciously seeking out in a drive for or after any temptation thrill it is all just but more than a little harmless game! There goes your pass and your paper, your morality! These are the first lessons those little ones should be given so they at least have a chance and a choice to jump after temptation or to try and to grow some spines!

With eyes of kohl and shadows deep
A broken heart she's pledged to keep

A triangle dies in three directions
The power of zero gains momentum
God picks bones from the graveyard of space
How long can the earth keep an angel

I dwell
In the absence
You left behind

If you die before me
I would jump down into your grave
and hug you so innocently
that angels will become jealous.

Beautiful is the 'thank you'
Wrapped with gratitude,
Offered to peace prone people
Who offer what is real-themselves

Indoors by technology, outdoors by speedy transport
I travel the world
Today in Japan, tomorrow in Rome,
Next day by an ancient civilization or in Hawaii or Coast Ivory,

The low lands call
I am tempted to answer
They are offering me a free dwelling
Without having to conquer

Once entangled in the web of a racist succubus,
Unruffled, he declares before High Justice:

Lust is chaos, love is art.
