(21.06.1953 - Tea-time poetry over a hot cup of tea - / Tiruchirapalli - simple verses, poems for all ages)

hired Chevrolet 8 seated-car, four aged couples
started on a tour to Palani on a Sunday morning
via Manappari, Vedasanthur and Oddanchatram
reached the down hill, after a 3 hour good run

straight to rope car station, with a VIP pass,
up in the moving cars, within few minutes
atop the hill, we were in for a crude shock
at the sprawling crowd, and alarming influx

under the hot sun, no shaded shelters
nor any seats for the weary standees
no gates open, unruly and impatient devotees
best warriors get in, others remain stranded

this was not the end of the ordeal
a winding fence, to regulate the queue
in a mile-long, un-cleaned, stuffy halls after halls
as if you pass through some cleansing tanks

at last, after 3 hour drill
we were to His direct warm grace;
within ten seconds, your turn lapses
pushed down, to the way Out - darshan was over

perfect satisfaction, some spending on prasads
we climbed down on foot, by elephant path
reaching the foot- hill, jumped in to the waiting car
heading for home, everyone dimmed into short sleep.

Next month, we will head in another direction,
same group, same car, same budget, another VIP pass
for a ‘special darshan' of the same God,
present there in different format.

poet William Wordsworth

I AM not One who much or oft delight
To season my fireside with personal talk.--
Of friends, who live within an easy walk,
Or neighbours, daily, weekly, in my sight:
