Having nearly lost my darling husband to s devastating stroke - I was searching for something meaningful to say at a small party of family and friends - here want to give thanks to all those who supported us and we will renew our marriage vows. Remembered this poem from many decades ago and these beautiful words will just mean so much (Report) Reply

There is something to be said about those moments in which one can seem to know the future thanks to the richness of love they feel around them, and for someone. (Report) Reply

How a single poem arising out of the intense love for someone so close to one's heart even after this life, can be ascertained from the popularity and simplicity of this poem. Thanks for sharing. (Report) Reply

In this brief period we exist on earth we may be lucky enough to share the time with someone for whom you would gladly give your life for. I lost such a person to cancer, i shared 29 years and 4 months with her, i would swop places this instant but then would she not have to bear this unbearable pain. Harold the sad bear. This poem was first 'read' to me by a girl, Poppy who became so very very special to me. It moved us so much it became 'our' poem. The background to it so moving, the sentiment so strong it's overpowering. The words have to be set to memory. ISL (Report) Reply
