The Office Christmas Party

The Christmas bash was organised
They’d settled on a night
The hall was decked with bells and holly
It was truly a festive sight

The staff turned up for the party
Most didn’t want to be there
But after a glass of wine or two
They didn’t really care

They cast aside their inhibitions
As the alcohol started to flow
And forgot their initial reluctance
As to why they bothered to go

It didn’t take long for the first one
To ruin her promotional chances
By constantly berating the boss
For refusing to get up for dances

The traditional Christmas party
Has been the ruin of many career
All for the sake of a word or two!
Uttered after a few pints of beer

Just because you’re not in the office
Or in your normal work place
Make a fool of yourself at the party
And the smile will be gone from your face

You’ll wake up the following morning
With a hammering in your brain
You may not remember anything
Which in turn will drive you insane

But when you go in on the Monday
And you glimpse the very first face
You’ll know by the way they great you
You’re definitely in disgrace

All for the sake of one night
Of a little prevarication
You ruin your chances forever
That’s the curse of intoxication

Poem of the Day

poet Edgar Allan Poe

Kind solace in a dying hour!
Such, father, is not (now) my theme-
I will not madly deem that power
Of Earth may shrive me of the sin
