Unexpected Break-Up - Poem by Frank Davis, Sr.

Exhausted, he stands
waiting in the darkened space that was once
his home; a shroud of chilling desperation
descends upon his being. He cannot even consider
the possibility she will not return- afraid
if he did, he might soon disappear
into the emptiness. His mind whirls about
itself, and all he keeps thinking is: Ever
present will be her absence; ever absent
will be her presence. Interminable night
becomes endless day. Eventually
he sits down.

This is a powerful poem....the intensity of the momentless moment when one realizes everything in their life has shifted. The title strengthens the intensity of the poem and the line Ever present will be her absence; ever absent will be her presence sums it all up. Well written...enough said. : ( (Report) Reply

Poignant, and straightforward. Nice work, Frank. (Report) Reply
