Treasure Island

We are One

You are you
And I am me
I am not you
And you're not me

Together with me
Establish a two
Anyone can see
That this is true

With he or she
Perhaps one more
Two becomes a three
And even a four

And as you can see
As we grow and grow
We'll never be free
From this tallying flow

This number count
It never ends
This great amount
Of precious friends

Why not break
The typical frame
This arithmetic ache
Of number game

Can't you see?
Me and you
Can simply be
A 'we', still true

He or she
Or even they
Will decide to be
With us one day

However more
We're still the same
Be it million times four
We retain one name

No matter you or me
Or a load or a tonne
Open your eyes
We are simply One

All across the world
Every bit under the sun
We are all twined and twirled
Into a single: One

Poet's Notes about The Poem

Written in short stanzas with cross-rhyme, I try to decribe a simple, almost childish reasoning pattern. We live in a divided world filled with discrimination and prejudice.

We claim we stand together, but only to be in contrary to another group elsewhere. Is this not ironic that we fall together only to be divided into bigger groups?

I hope to express this yearning to be one with the world, and for the world to be one with itself - a common ideology, so earnestly described in the song 'Imagine' by The Beatles.

ARM’D year! year of the struggle!
No dainty rhymes or sentimental love verses for you, terrible year!
Not you as some pale poetling, seated at a desk, lisping cadenzas
