You've Heard These Afore

You've heard these afore:

The zombies eat flesh and
The vampires drink blood—or sparkle in the sun

The evil clowns laugh and connive and
The alien invaders shoot their laser guns—pew, pew, pew

The action heroes sell toys and cigarettes and
The damsels scream for their salvation

The sidekicks and the cronies follow their betters and
The killer robots simply follow their programming

The tomboys kiss the tortured artists and
The good-looking blondes suck d***s in parked cars

The hardboiled detectives sleep at the station and
The serial maniacs elude their eventual capture

The old martial arts masters teach the reluctant heroes and
The nerds and the geeks wear glasses and speak technobabble

The sinister relatives fight the spoiled brats and
The town drunks drink with the wise fools—

And the yokels and
The whiskey priests join them

(I told you)

Poem of the Day

poet Christopher Marlowe

Black is the beauty of the brightest day,
