Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
...
You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may tread me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could

Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
...
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.

It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of ANNABEL LEE;

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

The free bird leaps
on the back of the wind
and floats downstream
till the current ends

The most important thing we've learned,
So far as children are concerned,
Is never, NEVER, NEVER let
Them near your television set -

Writing a poem is not about bringing some words together to create some charming sentences. It's so much deeper than that. Writing poetry is a bridge that allows people to express their feelings and make others live every single word they read. Poetry is to educate people, to lead them away from hate to love, from violence to mercy and pity. Writing poetry is to help this community better understand life and live it more passionately. PoemHunter.com contains an enormous number of famous poems from all over the world, by both classical and modern poets. You can read as many as you want, and also submit your own poems to share your writings with all our poets, members, and visitors.
WOODSTOCK, CONN., JULY 4, 1877
NOT to myself this breath of vesper song,
Not to these patient friends, this kindly throng,
Not to this hallowed morning, though it be
Our summer Christmas, Freedom's jubilee,
When every summit, topmast, steeple, tower,
That owns her empire spreads her starry flower,
Its blood-streaked leaves in heaven's benignant dew
Washed clean from every crimson stain they knew,--
No, not to these the passing thrills belong
That steal my breath to hush themselves with song.
These moments all are memory's; I have come
To speak with lips that rather should be dumb;
For what are words? At every step I tread
The dust that wore the footprints of the dead
But for whose life my life had never known
This faded vesture which it calls its own.
Here sleeps my father's sire, and they who gave
That earlier life here found their peaceful grave.
In days gone by I sought the hallowed ground;
Climbed yon long slope; the sacred spot I found
Where all unsullied lies the winter snow,
Where all ungathered spring's pale violets blow,
And tracked from stone to stone the Saxon name
That marks the blood I need not blush to claim,
Blood such as warmed the Pilgrim sons of toil,
Who held from God the charter of the soil.
I come an alien to your hills and plains,
Yet feel your birthright tingling in my veins;

This girlchild was born as usual
and presented dolls that did pee-pee
and miniature GE stoves and irons
and wee lipsticks the color of cherry candy.
Then in the magic of puberty, a classmate said:
You have a great big nose and fat legs.
She was healthy, tested intelligent,
possessed strong arms and back,
abundant sexual drive and manual dexterity.

As I lay on the hill with my friend
Laughing at the shapes in the clouds,
The sun shines on my face.
I turn to him with the sun in my eyes.
And we started to talk about how time flies.
Thinking that moments like these
Don't last forever.
Thinking of all the other good times,

The only true change will be achieved if those who rob over a certain income more than anyone could need, will be robbed from their wealth and stripped naked by citizens as in olden days the emperor has no clothes! Wealth is fine but too much is a crime and we should talk about it, what is enough and when does it become unethical hence a crime against thigh neighbour? WE need accountability of law-enforcers and state on that issue!

When thirst collapses the wall of cast,
This truth reveals our bond at last
No temple stands, no mosque apart
we share one earth, one human heart.

The brands we know so well,
In China, sales now fell.
World wide trading, not so bright,
Canada Goose, less bright light.

With badge of stars, in outstretched hands.
It sees the world, a road to mend,

I called you.
I called you many times.
You were snoring —
you were asleep.

A little stream, so small and new,
Started a journey, among green and blue.
Through fields of grass, and trees so tall,
It trickled on, under nature's call.

The wind whistles over the mountains
Across the valley below
Just to let you know it's there
And to say hello

No one can

You have to choose.
You cannot get rid

The old story, sharp and clean,
We came, they fell, a losing scene.
But new clues whisper, soft and low,
The truth is deeper than we know.

I dwell
In the absence
You left behind

If you die before me
I would jump down into your grave
and hug you so innocently
that angels will become jealous.

Beautiful is the 'thank you'
Wrapped with gratitude,
Offered to peace prone people
Who offer what is real-themselves

Today in Japan, tomorrow in Rome,
Next day by an ancient civilization or in Hawaii or Coast Ivory,

I am tempted to answer
They are offering me a free dwelling
Without having to conquer
