Andy Barrette Poems

I'm amazed that, as I've grown,
I have made this house my home.
All the things that I can see
bare a subtle piece of me.
...

Lately, I've had much to do.
My boring days are surely through.
My actions pouring from my thoughts
bring ample obligations bought.
...

I thought I'd write a funny poem
with rhythm but no rhyming. Gnome.
And so I find myself writing
about nothing important. Sting.
...

What is a family, ideally?
A mask or a mirror, really?
A group that you cannot escape
or starting line, at any rate?
...

I never really liked the mirror,
what it showed to me,
for, in the mirror, all I saw
is all I'm meant to be.
...

Am I here or am I there
with purpose or without?
Am I a person or a pencil?
What am I about?
...

I'm strong because I ail.
I'm strong because I cry.
I'm strong because I ache.
I'm strong because I die.
...

The title of a trance song
is much more than just a name.
In fact, it is a vital factor
of this genre's game.
...

Restless nights of wakeful work,
that put my mind to rest,
too often sabotage my morning,
dampening my best.
...

10.

If you were to ask me
why I can't recall my dreams
I'd tell you that my focus
is on more important things.
...

The wilderness, it beckons me
to come inside and stay.
It promises a better life
of simple work and play.
...

I always thought that, one day,
love would show itself to me.
Even so I searched and searched
as far as I could see.
...

I'd like to think that I'm a dreamer,
ambitious, a true believer,
but what really makes me better?
Am I average to the letter?
...

Why are you reading
instead of writing things yourself?
Daily self expression
is quite good for mental health.
...

Belly, please just let me be.
Take your hands from my throat.
Release me from your painful grip
and leave without a note.
...

I sure do miss the good times
when I thought I couldn't love.
Back then my keen ambition
and endurance was enough.
...

When the supply of wet mud
forms a layer on your skin
and the ample grass creates a plant
right where your face had been-
...

I miss the avid wonder
and feeling of majesty
of looking out over a great landing
unbeknownst to me.
...

I just came to a park bench
where I planned to sit and write.
It looked quite adequate
until it came into the light,
...

20.

There's something 'bout a runner
that will always speak to me
in a very spirited way
that I cannot clearly see.

Goodbye Home

I'm amazed that, as I've grown,
I have made this house my home.
All the things that I can see
bare a subtle piece of me.
Every shelf and every wall,
from my bedroom to the hall,
and all the space that's mine today
has been loved in so many ways.
