I'm sitting on the bench, where I once sat with you,
The first faint gleam of dawn has brought the morning dew
Rain falls like tears from wind tossed skies
On violets of blue, reminding me of the colour of your eyes.
The garden mourns, for the gardener is lost
Like the dead summer flowers turning to compost,
Life without you is like a flowerless spring,
I feel like a little bird that can no longer sing.
White garlands of lace trim the edge of the fence
As the clematis blooms and I smell it's sweet scents,
A butterfly softly tilts a flower,
The village clock chimes out the dawning hour.
My thoughts are sad as the March winds sigh
Two years ago today we said goodbye
The gardeners time had come
His life with me was done.
You made our garden a sweeter place
And it always puts a smile on my face,
Me without you now we have parted
Has left me lonely and broken hearted.
Everything's shooting up again
Through the sorrow and the pain
