Bella Luca Poems

She runs the rhymes; runs them smooth
From the crest of her fingertips
She lets them slip; slip without a thought
Onto a page she’ll eventually rip
...

You've had enough of autumns bleeding
you're more than ready for winters breathing
but remember to remember
that every crunch beneath your shoe
...

Do you know we lock our hearts
tightly in our minds?
That they're the ones that pay the price
of all we leave behind
...

J'ai voulu danser,
mais il a plu

et il a plu
...

Turning pages; pigeon wings
Pencils scratch paper like halting trains
Pens click painfully: anxiously
...

6.

Blue powder yields anxiety;
twitching eyebrows;
pinch yourself into raisins;
pretty doesn’t matter here;
...

I am elastic.
Snap them,
Make them sting; the doctors with spider webs crinkled at the edge of their eyes
Ghostly in white coats; they will ignite on these linoleum floors.
...

Here, the door is locked,
It clicks like buckling your helmet;
Switch the gears;
Push the pedals;

9.

Scraps of years in a place where you echo
off every sterile wall, seething in
your silence until all you can hear is
the boxes and boxes of words you stored

Go, I told them. I told them go, I don’t know why.
Stay.
Pallid are our faces; cotton swabs and sheets of paper with not a single word,
Through the shredder. Through his lips; dry as sand; as scorching feet.

Atom upon atom upon atom
I know it's insidious
but you tell me to 'go with the flow'
and I do because you're an expert of this world

Creases in the sofa twisted into mouths,
The clicking of keys crawled on the walls

Like chattering teeth,
...

The room resembles freshly fallen snow
Or piano keys
Or the tips of new pair of converse
...

Our myopic politicians stew
in star spangled defeat
as families- rich and poor alike-
are thrown out on the street.

Gather, americans
and we'll have a feast
of broken promises

And their eyes project
the sunlight
on to the cities
floors

You better watch out
'cause everyones waiting to see you fall

You sing along in your head

Just milk it; milk it ‘till it’s gone
Until the magic and wonder flee
Until the thrill of words withdraws and frays
And there’s nothing left for me

Silence

She runs the rhymes; runs them smooth
From the crest of her fingertips
She lets them slip; slip without a thought
Onto a page she’ll eventually rip

Rip into ruins; for she knows love is foolish
And she’s a fool to have fallen so hard
She must get back up; tend to her bruises and lumps and
Ignore her box full of shards

For she believes that she needs them that this is the way
To punish herself and put emptiness at bay
She doesn’t know any better than to self-prescribe
An antidote that brings her such shame inside

It’s a soft-spoken anger that she carries around
Day in and day out it’s weighing her down
So when the loneliness is rough; when she’s had enough
She tries to scream out loud

But nothing comes out; not a sound, not a shout
For silence is her curse
