I reach out for you in what has become the dawn - The tireless night has surrendered To the reality of civil twilight. My heart today, I’ll leave behind Next to your picture To bask in the half-light of the morning air Still heavy with the burden of you. Your scent has since long left our pillows Yet I still bury my face within What my imagination will allow. I’ll open my eyes to a world without you And won’t glance at your side of the bed Undisturbed. I’ll pretend to be an adult Masking the tear streaked cheeks of a child With a grown man’s sensibility. I place both feet on the floor of this Tuesday morning Looking towards the breaking day.
