Don Bukana Poems

I tried so hard to be your perfect child
but in your eyes I turned out wild
Yeah, sometimes I did lie
but Mom, I really did try
...

A young boy from my neighborhood came to me the other day. he was near hysteria
he said, big bro jamb just came out and i have failed woefully my parents don't know of this yet
and i really don't Know what to do, I'm confused
i did my possible best i prayed and fasted for days waiting on God i attended lessons and i prepared well for this exam
...

1st year(In university)
I was sitting in the lecture room, looking at that girl sitting next to me. She was my ‘best friend'. She had nice hair, humble and was very beautiful. I wish I could tell her that I loved her so much, but I didn't want to break the bond. After lectures, she walked to me, borrowed some notes of the previous class hugged and pecked me goodbye.
I wish I told her, I wish she knew
That I wanted us to be more than just friends
...

I knew this day would eventually come
When I'd want to say these words to you
And it's with these words I hold in my heart
That I now feel I need to renew
...

CATCALLS and rapes
Molesting all sizes and shapes
Broadcasted on TV, the recorded tapes
But blame is on the victim howsoever she drapes
...

I feel the tears fall as I lay here and cry.
Nobody knows that all my happiness is a lie.
You see, I can't really smile; I haven't in a while.
It seems like my new style.
...

Lord, when I worry about the bills,
Knowing I don't have money-making skills,
Please be my complete provider,
As well as my ever present minder.
...

I'M STILL HERE CALL ME DON BUKANA
My looks are nothing special
My face reveals my age
My body shows some wear and tear
...

What happened to me?
The mask I wear
Was never before there
My emotions were here
...

I waited, and you didn't come
I called, and you didn't answer

I knocked, but you weren't home
...

Looking back on all the selfish things that we would do
and all the stories we've been told about what she's been through.
Mama's heart is fragile, broken more times than we know.
Through cracks and holes life left behind, love found a place to grow.
...

The blue skies turn to grey

No more stories
...

She is a girl who just wanted to fit in
and be treated the same,
but instead, sticks and stones got thrown at her.
She just wants to make everyone happy
...

What will it take to free this mind
Imprisoned long in apathy
Now reduced to mundane thoughts
That stultify activity
...

Tenement buildings falling to bits
Victims of precision hits
Sirens wailing, people running
Smoke and darkness, engines gunning
...

What shows itself so
Very clearly each day
For every eye to see
...

I'm so tried of this Dark world
I want to kill myself
I want to commit suicide
Leave me bro let me end my life.

Likewise, from very young age he has shown his talent of expression and writing. He also reads lots of books and poems of other poets and he has wonderful skill of writing reviews on them. His heart beats for poetry and mind links to God. His poems are spiritually expressed from his deepest core of emotion. His poems carry love, emotion, affection, social perspectives, natural feelings and many more. I have gone through his poems titled, “Lean on me, ” Grateful heart” and “Change, ” and reviewed them. I am really amazed finding his excellent, brilliant and extraordinary skill of poetic expression. As far as my opinion his poems are very deeply philosophical. I am wishing him all the best from my deepest core for his success in literary perseverance and I hope he will shine as a dazzling star in the world literary sky creating more poetic gems in future. May God bring happiness and fortune for him and for his family! May fragrant flowers bloom in his path of progress!

Take a step back, Learn how to breathe. Take a step back And just be. Observe in silence. Take things in. Despite what goes on, Trust what's within.
