Edgar James Momoh Poems

I heard an inner voice whispering to me
Let not your heart be troubled
But the sinner voice in me answered back
Do not forget your troubles
...

I thank God for haters
Yes, I know they hate me
They hate for what I know and stand for
Yes, they hate me for my dream of becoming brighter, better and bigger
...

If I love God more, I will make his Word and Service my delight
If I love people more, I will seek after their interests, not only mine
If I love my family more, I will give my best for them at all times
If I love my friends more, I will learn to forgive them their wrongs
...

He speaks out of both sides of his mouth
Flicking his tongue like a viper
As he tell tales of deception
That hits with precision
...

I read it, heard it and felt it;
Like you said it in your book
A book with pages that cannot be flipped with the thumb,
Or cataloged on a shelf.
...

My thoughts are the unformed words of my intentions,
If I nurture good ones, my actions will be commendable.

My intentions are the un-actuated thoughts of my emotions,
...

Did anybody hear that sound?
What sound is it...
Its the sound of terror that came at midnight watch
Pounding the ground like an earthquake
...

From the horizon of the sun,
A rainbow is forming,
A collage of resplendent beauty of
Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet
...

There is a race that we must run
Which only by grace that victory won
Sure! Nothing but grace that counts
In this race I can't keep the pace
...

Her smile brightened our hearts
Than a thousand watts a room
Tho' not seeking attention
Left a great deal of impression
...

The heavens opened up
And the rains came down
Pouring out like a broken tap
Giving height to the flowing waters
...

If only I were perfect,
Then I would stop sinning
And all my foibles will be gone in a flash of a second
Leaving no trace of a shadow on my being
...

Where are they all gone?
I can see Augustine is here and
Julia was here just the other day
But where is my beloved Junia
...

When I first came, you resisted me
But when I was about to leave
You insisted that I stayed
What changed your heart so fast
...

As I walked down the streets of the great beyond
I could hear nothing but silence
Silence, too loud that deafened my simple soul
So I cloaked myself in reverence
...

This is a shadowy world
A world of inverted images
And encrypted echoes of glory
Though sounding from near

FOUR IS FOR MAMA

She has only one life to live, not seven
Yet she lives for four:
...

From obscurity to stardom he rose,
Barely surviving on shoe-lace privileges as he grew up.
Unbeknownst to himself and the world around,
That one day, he will stand at the pinnacle of the world's stage

19.

Why worry when you can pray?
Why pray if you must worry?
Why doubt when you can trust?
Why trust if you must doubt?
...

I have no desire to be you
Because you are who you are
God made me so, and he made you so.
I am content with what I am, how I look and what I have

The Battle Within Me

I heard an inner voice whispering to me
Let not your heart be troubled
But the sinner voice in me answered back
Do not forget your troubles
And the inner voice said to me, believe in God's promises
But the sinner voice reminded me of my problems

Then the inner voice reminded me that with God all things are possible
But sinner voice let me see the impossibilities
Yet again the inner voice tried to help me recount my successes
But the sinner voice let me see my numerous failures in the process

Then the inner voice caused me to soar on the wings of faith
Yet again the sinner voice assailed me with fears
No you can't, Yes I can
The battle waged on and on...
Alas! I said to myself, 'woe is me, I am undone'
Cause I know not which voice to believe

Then, I heard the 'Still Small Voice' whispering to my inner man
Believe in God and believe also in me...
Suddenly! The battle was done and victory won.

Once your attitude is right, the load you carry will be light.

Let your strength fail you when it comes to carrying bitterness and grudge, because they are heavy.
