Edith Oram Poems

You see only right and wrong, black and white,
I weigh up circumstances, shades of grey.
You brand shyness and softness as weakness,
I applaud empathy, love and astuteness.
...

To live out one's life in peace,
To go with the flow.
Wars and injustice forever to cease,
Love and respect to be on the increase,
...

I'd like to paint please show me how,
The pull is strong within me now,
Create in colours, let them flow,
Express emotions, let them go.
...

Traumatised, terrified, hiding from view,
Shrinking back, expecting attack, poor you.
Treated with kindness, patience and respect,
Now look at you.
...

All eyes on Beijing
Monkey and pig leave mountains
Olympics begin
...

The weather today
Is severe, so they say,
So when you go out,
Do not cast a clout.
...

It's time to go,
My heart says< 'No'.
My brain explores
And my soul soars
...

Droplets of water dangle like crystals,
Wisps of mist waft gently between the trees.
Air is still, so very still, heavy, dank.
Birds flutter to feed, fluffing drenched feathers,
...

Sat in my very first car,
Brow beaded with apprehension,
I awaited THE EXAMINER.
'Start her up and pull away, ' said HE.
...

Survey site, oh what a mess.
How long? Well that's anyone's guess.
Out with paper, pen and tape,
Rough ideas taking shape.
...

You ignored the igloo we bought you
And shunned the snuggly sleeve.
The cat bed and cushions don't tempt you
And the fleecey blanket you leave,
...

'Tis midnight, the witching hour,
All is quiet
Bar the clock,
Tick tock, tick tock,
...

Reclining on a Turkish Delight, wobbling way out to sea,
A whiskeried walrus climbed aboard to ask if I fancied tea.
'Breakfast, Earl Grey or herbal? ' asked a marmalade cat on a pie.
'Earl Grey if you please, ' I replied gratefully as my mouth was Sahara dry.
...

Born at conception this awesome emotion,
Burns like a fire and flows like an ocean,
Surrounding the object of its affection
With succour, support and powerful protection.

Different Perspectives

You see only right and wrong, black and white,
I weigh up circumstances, shades of grey.
You brand shyness and softness as weakness,
I applaud empathy, love and astuteness.
You expect familial love and duty,
I endeavour to earn respect and love.
You are prescriptive in what one should do,
I believe strongly in freedom of choice.
You predict doom and gloom in all events,
I seek crock of gold at rainbow's end.
You try to buy love but push it away,
I know in my heart love cannot be bought.
You are closed to life as it really is,
I, m open, aware each day of my life.
We are so very different you and I,
And yet we're so closely related, sigh!
