Eigbe Solomon Poems

Sixteen hours thinking of you,
Eight hours dreaming of you,
Your presence I feel all day,
Still I can't hold you,
...

Why will you give someone else, a smile so bright?
Why would you gaze into another man's eyes?
Why allow someone else wrap you in embrace?
Why should another arm encircle you?
...

I saw a man
With a face so calm
His words soft and sweet
Wears a smile as often as his eyeglass

Missing You

Sixteen hours thinking of you,
Eight hours dreaming of you,
Your presence I feel all day,
Still I can't hold you,
A thousand picture of you on my mind,
But none in my eyes
The distance seems farther than it is
Like a satellite out of the earth
A fish buried in the seabed
I feel you far for me.

I'm alone, like a canoe in a vast ocean
I shiver at the thought of your not returning soonest,
I fear that you're not missing me
My little room look so large
For I know you're not behind the corner.

How long shall I wait?
How often we I peep through my window?
If I could see a dim shadow of you
It might take the sorrow off my heart
If only I could hear your voice
It will feel like a cold water to a traveller in the desert

Return, Please return
With wealth or without
Return; oh return in full health and strength.
