Sleep. Close eyes. Don’t think. Close eyes. Count perhaps.
Count seconds. Count the rattle of wheels on tracks.
Sleep. Eyes closed. Night come to close. Thoughts collapse.

Edith welcomes you to see
her bud-luscious apple tree;
she ushers you in
with her awful grin,
...
The sun gleamed;
the truck lurched along,
sand churning under
weight of wheels;
...
It wraps about the house and clings
Like a wall of wasps with a thousand stings.
Enough to drive you mad,
Or, in sadness, to the drink;

\\i swatted a fly with your book

They step aboard the royal navy boats,
as eager as children waiting to see,
with widened gait growing all-gallopy;

Donated by Family and Friends, In Memory of DAVID HATCHER,18th February 1941 - 11th February 2004, 'Sit with me and watch the sea'
Sea curls and froths, unfolding at my feet.
I sit, invited by the plaque,
...
A living hand gave wave,
Long left growing under
For rain to slowly plunder:
A wart upon the grave.

Under the lamplight glare
I sup the yellow potion,
Knees to chest in chair.
The only things in motion

and eternity became

If only the Sea could sleep;
Call off its search and creep
Away in the dark to mourn.

, Before The Flat Was Round
before the flat was round;
when rainbows touched the ground
& told of gold they’d found;
when the moon held a man
who shrank as began
& we could sail to perhaps;
before we asked of what & how & when;
now that everywhere is anyone’s somewhere
are our dreams all answered?
who the sun & what hold?
when this?
how old?
so we think we know the answers;
we think & so are told:
the earth’s a planet,
the sun a star;
we’re none the wiser
as to who we are
