before the flat was round;
when rainbows touched the ground
& told of gold they’d found;
when the moon held a man
who shrank as began
& we could sail to perhaps;
before we asked of what & how & when;
now that everywhere is anyone’s somewhere
are our dreams all answered?
who the sun & what hold?
when this?
how old?
so we think we know the answers;
we think & so are told:
the earth’s a planet,
the sun a star;
we’re none the wiser
as to who we are
