The War Of 1914-18

I was travellin' ‘round, this old country town
When I saw our name carved in stone on the ground.
'Roll of Honour' it said, and asterisk meant 'dead '
In the war of 1914-18.

When I got home, I called my Dad on the phone,
And I asked him whether he had known
That a man with my name, fought all in vain,
In the war of 1914-18.

And then came the story of my Great Uncle Rory
'enlisted' he said to fight for the glory
'Every man' he would say, was off on his way
to the war of 1914-18.

The world was at war, this had never happened before,
