I was travellin' ‘round, this old country town
When I saw our name carved in stone on the ground.
'Roll of Honour' it said, and asterisk meant 'dead '
In the war of 1914-18.

Everybody's out there having their fun
Lookin' in the mirror what have I done wrong.
Keepin' to my self aint hurtin' no
Sittin' here at home in isolation

Way back in the 60's, when I was just a kid
I got me a spankin', so I ran away and hid
My dad he got the strap out, and said " come on now please
I'm gonna have to wallop you - until you eat your peas.

I love to hear the sounds
Of the creatures of the night.
I love to see the colours
Of the early morning light.

He learnt his trade from Harry Power
Horse stealin', bushranger, man of the hour
From Tiperary, transported to our shore
Married a Quinn girl, had a run-in with the law
