1 Woman Wonder Poem by Karen Riggs

1 Woman Wonder

im sittin here a 1 woman wonder
wondering just where my place is in this timeless life
i get a call from a stranger who will either save me or make me recall my fathers hands- his hate- his rejection
he tells me his name- i hold him- so rapidly my emotion grows
because i know just how its been to be an offspring- that mommy n daddy never wanted to grow
we cant stop this- a gift wrapped inside the wind
his tiny smile- open eyes - the way he grasped my hand
in that moment he gave me a commpassion- for him where i would never allow pain to intrude
maybe niether of us will ever reach the stars- but we can do our best to get him there
lets set the entire world at rest- in his name!
'ive been a 1 woman circus my entire life
ive dated cochroachs- i washed my soul
but i always promised myself- that if i ever had a kid
they wouldnt grow the way i did
im just 1 woman
standing by your side 100%'
pain has given me a gift- n today im proud to call my dad - dad
hes given me good direction- a road home
where that leads- i hope its not papers n wispers that are the only sound
ive grown- ill grow more- gifts dont come often - not 4 life- not 4 life
i promise i will never walk away
