#248 Our Sudden Sever Poem by Jimmie Arrington

#248 Our Sudden Sever

It ended as quickly as it began,
As winter turned to spring.
But through that winter I held your hand
And pushed you on the swing.

We went for walks at midnight
And drove out to the lake,
Watched movies in the moonlight,
Then shared an Oreo shake.

We had dinner at Mimi’s Café,
Got hot chocolate at QT,
Then listened to Dashboard play;
Alone, I revisit these places frequently.

It seems as if I dreamt you true,
Until now, I never understood,
I never had the slightest clue
You’d change my life for good.

I took our short time for granted,
When I think back on it now.
Deep down within I’m still enchanted
And I wish we could go back somehow.

Though it’s almost been four years
Since our sudden sever,
Through many long overdue tears,
I miss you more now than ever.
