#272 You Can’t Take That Away Poem by Jimmie Arrington

#272 You Can’t Take That Away

You can take the good memories.
You can be my runaway bride.
You can take the midnight breeze.
You can take away my pride.
You can swear your lies are true.
You can deceive and betray.
But still I’ll always love you,
And you can’t take that away.

You can knot and tie my rope.
You can take every pretty sight.
You can take away my hope.
You can take away my night.
You can take my golden view.
You can take away my day.
But still I’ll always love you,
And you can’t take that away.

You can take my self esteem.
You can leave me ever on guard.
You can take every single dream.
You can leave me bruised and scarred.
You can break a heart so new.
You can ruin me in every way.
But still I’ll always love you,
And you can’t take that away.
