#275 Without Poem by Jimmie Arrington

#275 Without

Like a painter without a canvas,
Like a pirate without a ship,
Like a “goodnight” without a kiss,
A passionate lover without a lip,

Like a clown without a balloon,
Like a watch without the time,
Like a song without a tune,
A dreamy poet without a rhyme,

Like the night without a star,
Like a walk without a friend,
Like a folksinger without a guitar,
A beginning without an end,

Like a city without a street,
Like a forest without a tree,
Like a heart without a beat,
Or a locked door without a key,

Like a king without a throne,
Like an author without a story,
Like a skeleton without a bone,
A brave warrior without due glory,

Like a rainbow without color,
Like a room without a light,
Like a lady without a mister,
A distressed damsel without her knight.

Like Mr. Darcy without Miss Bennett,
Like Noah without his Allie,
Like Romeo without his Juliet,
I am Jimmie without my Amalie.

But winter came as the seasons changed
And we wrapped our freezing hearts.
The past and present have become estranged
And what was will vanish as soon as spring starts.
