#283 Haunted But Undaunted Poem by Jimmie Arrington

#283 Haunted But Undaunted

All the cupboards are empty.
The walls lack decoration.
The furniture has vanished,
All finding a new location.

The television’s disappeared.
The closets are all bare.
The desk has gone missing,
Like it was never there.

The mailbox receives no letters.
There’s no cars in the driveway.
The dinning room table is gone
And its chairs have gone away.

And yet I see cups and plates,
I see pictures hanging by,
The couch still looks inviting,
As if it was still July.

“Friends” is on in the background.
Our coats hang on the rack.
Papers are scattered all around,
One says “I love you” on the back.

Junk mail and bills fill the mailbox.
Your white truck’s parked outside.
The dinning room table is set
With your purse just beside.

I’m seeing things no longer there,
Wanting for the unwanted.
All is gone but not forgotten,
I’m haunted but undaunted.
