40 Years Poem by William Kofoed

40 Years

40 years have pasted away
I wonder how she looks today
Wonder how her life has gone
Since last I saw her
long ago
She wanted what I did not have
Could not give her
if I would
She did find someone else
Who gave to her
what I could not
Last I saw her
with his gift
No words were spoken
as we pasted
His gift brought
no joy to her
Happiness sought
was not there found
40 years have pasted away
Did happiness
she ever find
In all the years that have pasted away
I've wondered how
She looks today
