643. When The First Men Walked The Earth Poem by Jaden Knight

643. When The First Men Walked The Earth

It was said that the first men walked the earth
they sang to the trees and animals
even the rivers and seas hears their joyful singing
as the peaceful message was passed along

So it was that they learnt to talk
each developing their own voices and tunes
the men listened carefully to these new songs
delighted with their success

Unfortunately it was not to last
as man declared war on the world around him
stopped speaking to the trees and cut them down
killing animals and birds that were once their friends
taking others to serve as slaves

And so our great songs were lost in fire and death
the words seemed to lose all meaning
for a time everything was silent
as if in mourning for the events that occurred

Now the forests and creatures have renewed their songs
though we can no longer understand them
if we can just take a moment to revel in their beauty
we may remember the smallest fragments
of how it was when men first walked
