8: 38 Am Poem by Frank DeFulgentis

8: 38 Am

first of all
i just want to say
i've heard some
great things about you
since life
is like a job interview
with the world
i thought
i would put that out there
you got flair
the trouble is
i don't know where
you are coming from
perhaps a
position in science fiction
chances are
you don't work well
with others
in which case
the best place
would be customer service
bus driver or
administrative assistant
so long as
you don't expect
instant results
otherwise my friend
you may end up as a writer
that is if you feel
up to the task
if so here is a flask of whiskey
to help the self-discovery
even though
i'm sure some more
philosophical furniture
may need to be moved around

like you
i wanted to be a writer
but did not quite know
what to say
i was trying to find
the deeper meaning
in the day
but it escaped me
when it's bitter in the light
and sour in the dark
there is nowhere to go
so once again
i’m stirring the pot
of assuming tomorrows
like everyone else
but i refuse to
leave it to fate
i will play an old song
with words long forgotten
maybe this time
i'll get it right
i know i must be crazy
to drink this in
to let the warped record spin
the only way to begin
is to get something on paper
