A Black Love Poem by lyxo lyxo

A Black Love

Rating: 5.0

Once, I fell in love with a black man
I saw him fighting for his mistakes
I saw him crying for regrets
I stood by him, but we couldn’t stand together.
In his world, where life’s a jungle
Where breathing becomes survival, I walked next to him
Because of my color of skin, I didn’t walk with him
My lighter skin was our fence
His lighter became his defence
For all the bro’, all the G’s, he couldn’t let down
He stayed for the sake of God
But prayed God’s sake to save
Life’s the tunnel, a journey for hope seeker
On CNN channel, Obama, a new believer
Forty-fourth Presidents of the United-States
November fourth, he symbolized all the hates
From slavery to votes, they stand up and present
A fusion for their battlefield, they do represent
Not American, not Haitian, I’m Asian from Belgium
With words and love, I tried to pull him out
Now, I got it: until you truly give in, you can’t take him out
When you don’t belong, you got no right to say it’s wrong
I am a false, he is a true
Don’t hate the player, hate the game
I loved my love, hate his lifestyle condition
He loved his classy girlfriend, hate the commitment
Growing up where the streets rules
He do it with the rules, he follows the system
Like from repression to weed
He thought vital for his own system
If you not in, you’re out
If you got none, swallow it
‘Cause you can’t scream it out
That’s how life goes, in the ghettos
If he only believes in changes, I believe in chances
It’s never too late, only not on time
Take that chance, here’s your first change
I watched his doings like a movie
A drama, a thriller, not a comedy
Five stars rating, a superstar performance
Bad boy playing, karma’s his allowance
He acts like in a play, but should sing on stage
I didn’t forget his dream
Perhaps, his voice stays a dream
Not everybody gets a Barack
To realize a King’s dream.

Black is black, black is beautiful, black is power, etc. I'm no racist and I like this piece. Yeah, some people has to take the chance to change, once you have it, then bite the bullet. You got good lines in free verse. Easy to grab, easy to digest. Well done.

Dear poet friend, deep lines indeed, must read it again couple of times again, I see pretty familiar faces from Abe Lincoln; his civil rights, to Martin Luther King and his silent fights...Michael Jackson and his mysterious death... As I said, must read it again, to comment, but 10 ++++ is the minimum...Bravo! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
