A Broken Soldier's Prayer Poem by Dallas Carter

A Broken Soldier's Prayer

Dear Lord, you've blessed me greatly as I travel through this life,
I've a loving family, a few amazing friends, and a bigger heart than most.
Despite the pains I have each day, I still am able to give my best fight,
All because every chance I get, I take a break, take a knee and pray.

Dear Father, you watched me from the Heavens above as I grew from a child,
You created me in your hands with more love than anything on this Earth could give.
The trials you place in front of me are just to test my faith in you,
But I know that as I walk through these challenges you are right there beside me.

Dear God, someone who used to be special to me is leaving soon,
He's going to Afghanistan, but I'm not quite sure for how long it'll be.
I may not have the same care for him now as I did when we first met,
But I know it'll tear me apart just the same if he doesn't make it home safely.

Heavenly Father, hear this broken soldier's prayer loudly, strongly, patiently,
I ask that you show him the kindness and wisdom that you've shown me,
And bless me with the ability to forgive him in full for the wrong that he's done me.
I may not be the greatest at letting things go, but I'm getting there with your help.

To the God who made me from the dust in His own image,
I thank you for every gift you've given me, every moment you've blessed me with.
I promise to live every day in full faith and to follow your commandments,
And as I take every day in, every gift in, I will repent for my sins and forgive those who need it.

Amen
