A Candle Of Vision Poem by Sergio D'Amico

A Candle Of Vision

Rating: 5.0

A candle burns in a room somewhere around,
as I search for it with a lingering frown,
for the day is at rest and I crave for the light,
to guide me beyond the perimeters of my life.

If I submit to the thoughts of men,
I will find myself tangled in a web,
for the day is short and the night is long,
for the man who cannot tell right from wrong.

At the other end I can see the light
flickering from beneath the door at night
and as I do what I think is right,
my name appears on the doors by my side.

I rest my search for a little while
to listen to a child that cries,
and his scream strikes me so deep
for I hear it whenever I fall asleep.

Some candle of vision will tell me why
that child does nothing but cry,
for if I can just ease his pain,
my search would not have been in vain.

So I rest a while with a fading smile,
for the flame on the candle is about to die,
and I lift this child up to the sky,
and by the moon at night, on his face appears
an innocent smile
