A Centrist

To me as a child
the left wing and the right
of a chicken were the same -
I wouldn't eat either.

Early was I destined
to be this poem's name -
a leftist to the far right
and a rightist to the far left.

Both fars call me 'a breasty' -
'breast-fed', 'boneless'; 'skinless' too.
As I would eat the drumstick,
none of those are quite true.
