A Coffee Is A Friend Poem by Udaya R. Tennakoon

A Coffee Is A Friend

All was in a sleep
I took care
Not those to be waken up

I tiptoed
To the kitchen
Sound of
Boiling water
And the sink
And the clack of the cup and spoon
Not a secret

Came back to the chair
Looked at the clock
It disturbs every second
Without any hesitation

Did it say not to sleep?
Or go to the bed
Or others to wake up

To me is it ridiculous
I’m not an obedient pupil
To follow the time

I want to exceed it
Night is the light for that
A coffee is a friend
Though it break the silence
