A Commoner By Love Poem by Sipho Mhlanga

A Commoner By Love

I was never raised in royalty
I have a childhood nickname
I have stolen sweets.
And I've jumped fences running.

If ever I was told that a commoner
Will ever be dinning with a queen,
Surely my youth would have been better.
But because I had to go through rough
To become tough.

I have to thank the heavens
I sometimes look up and smile.
Possibly loving has gotten me crazy
If it be so, I don't want to be well.
I'd rather laugh with you
Than smile at anyone else.

You are my pillar
My secret strength.
You are my kryptonite
Because my knees get weak in your presence
And I lose my focus.

I don't need to follow rules
Neither do I need clarification.
Because with you
Is where I'd rather be.
I do ngiyavuma I do.

I hope that my spiritual proposal is accepted
For the ring will be eternal.
The love infinite.
We shall not end like water
And we shall be the air to breathe.

Kings will come to our abode
Just to know if love has a code.
I'll tell them that is God
Because without Him,
We are not.

I adore you
I cherish you
I miss you
I and you
I love you.

Forevermore.
