A Companion For The Silence Poem by Noen Muti

A Companion For The Silence

I seek you only in the quiet,
one whose soul knows the ascent of prayer.
Whose eyes will someday brightly gleam,
proud to cradle the little breaths
entrusted by Heaven through her womb.
When the same roof shelters us both,
I shall not crave a banquet of fleeting tastes.
The same humble bread each day is enough,
for my bones have long been wedded to the simple things.
Only one shadow stirs my doubt:
what if exhaustion swallows you in a quiet despair?
Let it be known,
these hands are fashioned to toil and build.
I do not seek to bring you home as a servant,
nor to bind your weary spirit to the mundane.
I yearn only for a seat by your side,
to be the quiet harbor for your stories.
To share the laughter, the mysteries, and the winding road,
for whatever remains of our fleeting days.
