A Counterpunch On Life Poem by Doris Cornago

A Counterpunch On Life

Rating: 5.0

When you've been hurt you come around
Stronger than before, ready for another
Round, circling and jabbing the air
Facing up to life, your sparring
Partner, watching his moves
Countering with your own
Shouting at the top of
Your lungs, hey
Look out, this
One's on
You, rat
Taken
My
All, left
Nothing but
Bruises, some
Broken bones at worst
But you heal good with that
Attitude of giving back what you're
Given, hey life, don't run, this one's on me

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
You are utterly hopeless against what life throws at you - is it God? How dare you question God, somebody warns you, so you dare not. Two sudden deaths, out of the blue, and you feel you can't bear more. It seems like all the people you love are taken from you - for some reason. A jealous God - not again. So, yes, in mute anger, you think of life not as your opponent, rather, a sparring partner, a trainer to make you tough. Actually, a poor mask for your anger as you want to hurt back as you've been hurt. Dare life to a boxing match, then. It helps you to be angry and to spend your energy on physical training to be stronger, healthier and ready for anything that comes your way.
