A Dance With Fear Poem by Ziyanda KUBONI

A Dance With Fear

Dancing with fear
Hoping he doesn't see my tears
Swaying my waist to the sound of his voice
His words have become my dose
They scream at me
Bringing me down to my knee
I am afraid
You have left and I am afraid.
Afraid of the dark
Will I lose my spark?
Will I remember what it feels like to be me
Or will I curl up into a ball of memories?
I feel his grip tighten
As his feet guide me on the dance floor
I am familiar with his rhythm.
Watch me dance with fear
Oh how do I get away dear?
