A Depressed Friend Poem by RIC BASTASA

A Depressed Friend

breath as heavy as brick
sighs as light as feather
shoulder burden as heavy as steel
abs corrugated like roof
a face as thick as elephant skin
bones rattling like a snake
thirst as dry as sand
wrinkles like waves of the sea
jaws drooping like a fall

that is what you are my friend.
you need badly a
bath.
