A Face First Poem by Standing in the Silence of Your Pain

A Face First

The repeat button on my heart is jammed
It's set to repeat for all eternity
I thought I was over all this
But I guess I'm not
You look at me and see a girl
She doesn't stand out in looks at all
She stands tall and invisible to your eyes
She wants to be noticed
But all you see is her friends
Her friends are witty, pretty, and smart
She's just there
Living in the shadow
You see a face first
And a face seems to matter more
Because time after time
Life has shown her she's
Not good enough for anyone
She tries to be better
And each time she thinks she's succeeded
She finds
That her friends are always better
That there's no one for her
And guess who it is who always gets hurt
by trusting any guy that comes along
givin her any attention-any compliment at all?
The girl is left alone
To fight through her pain
While her friends get the guy
It's no wonder she thinks that
No one would care if she died
Why can't they see that there's more to a person than looks
That there's more to see,
To know
See beyond the face
See inside
You'll be surprized
At what you'll find
