A Fairy Tale (For Nicola) Poem by John Thorkild Ellison

A Fairy Tale (For Nicola)

As lights grow dim and candles fail
I write about my secret life
And in this little fairy-tale
We are together, man and wife.

I say goodbye to my broken heart
And the pain of unrequited love,
The shadows of my grief depart
And now the skies are bright above.

The birds are singing in the trees
And sunlight brightens everything,
There is a warm and gentle breeze
And on your finger is my ring!

The trouble with this tale I tell
Is that it fills you with dismay,
For you it would be a living hell
And you want to throw my book away!

Don't worry, love, I understand
That you and I don't share my dream,
The story-book is promptly banned
I'll change the content and the theme!

I'll choose to write another plot
With action and adventure too,
None of this romantic rot
But cloak and dagger stuff for you! !
