A Finless Fish Poem by Jasper Daniel

A Finless Fish

The yellow bus
Made a screeching halt
And brought me back
From a dream about to start
My sleepy eyes
Went back to work
And saw her smile
My day’s first perk

What a sight
She was to see
Cupid’s arrow
Landed on me
My eyes were now
Blurred with steam
My mind went racing
Back to dream

I dreamt of roses
And tulips blue
Up above
Like birds we flew
We flew so high
And reached the sun
Our wings on fire
I saw them burn

We flipped and flapped
We felt the heat
I found myself
Back in my seat
The dream had ended
No smoke no fire
What was left
Was a burning desire

To show her things
She didn't know
All she needed
Is this Romeo
I’ll tell her this
And make her mine
I thought of it
And felt so fine

I got back home
And went to sleep
At the thought of morrow
My heart did leap
And when it came
I wore a tie
On a shirt, the best
My money can buy

I walked the road
As a king would do
Songs I sang
And whistles blew
The clouded sky
Began to rain
I saw her smiling
Behind the pane

At that sight
I felt the heat
My loving heart
Skipped a beat
I shot at her
A beaming smile
I had saved for her
All this while

I hopped and skipped
And opened the door
There she was sitting
Inside the store
Smiling as
She usually does
The same what I saw
From the yellow bus

I walked up to her
And gave my hand
But sitting there
She wouldn't stand
I felt like a fish
Without a fin
I had fallen in love
With a mannequin
