Sacred Voices Poem by Jasper Daniel

Sacred Voices

Rating: 5.0

The sacred voices went silent
They had no money to pay the rent
They left me cold and empty
When I was nine or ten.

And then there came a silence
With ten thousand stories to tell
Of vanquished evils and forgiven sins
Not one of them rang a bell

I heard its stories in the morning.
Where darkness goes to hide
I called out to my redeemer
She did not send a reply

The savior had gone on a vacation
The doctor was stone dead cold
The fate of the sailor was sealed
The story will never be told.

Now I’m hanging in here like a criminal
Who had his gruesome pay
You look new and innocent
Do you have anything to say.

Tell me about your passions
And the price you had to pay
Or just tell me where you come from
And where you plan to stay

Is it far beyond my pay cheques
Is it deep within a dream
Where do you have your sweet abode
For your love and your grief

Poison me with your truthfulness
Your lies can sweeten me
And on the altar of passion
Why don’t you enlighten me

I’m still the lonesome sailor
Locked in a room called time
I drowning in your sympathy
But i'm planning my next crime

Now you’ve heard my story
And this I cannot change
Don’t look to make amendments
We’re on a one-way lane

Don’t frighten me with your silence
Don’t fool me with your toys
Just help me find what I’m searching for
I have lost my sacred voice.
