A Fortress I Rebuild Poem by Raaghavi SudhaGenga

A Fortress I Rebuild

I'm a girl
Who's broken beyond repair
And my armoured heart
Is dented and split now.
Through its chink
I took six arrows
Each piercing its way
Deep inside my fortified stronghold.
The castle, though,
Built with despair and rage
And for a very long siege
Crumbles from inside
During those sleepless nights
When the guard is down
And the visor, up.
The castle, though,
Burnt and demolished now
I mend it myself
Stone by stone, brick by brick
Mustering up all I have
And all I've lost
A fortress I rebuild.

I'm a girl
Just broken beyond repair
But the fires in my forges
Still burn bright
Bright bright bright
Just enough to make myself
A mail and a new shield
From the arrows pierced
And my dented armour.
And with everything I find
From my collapsed fort
I'll build a wall 1000 times
Stronger than before
Impenetrable by nothing
Neither storm nor tremor
Neither an arrow nor a ram
Neither a coward nor a Man.

But my fates are sealed
Along with my gates.
I will fall.
And if, one day, I fall,
On my knees and into my grave
Of the wounds festered,
I'll be bleeding only from the inside.
