A Forty-Year-Old Virgin Poem by Phrank Adie

A Forty-Year-Old Virgin

I am a forty-year-old lady
And I am still a virgin
That may sound really crazy
But it is surely not a sin.

My virginity is my treasure
Its sanctity is without measure
I have kept it for the man I shall marry.
But marriage has decided to tarry.

I grew up with my pious grandmother
Who talked a lot about fidelity
To her, there was no greater blunder
Than a single lady losing her virginity.

I have dated a couple of men
Most of whom don't have respect for women
Some came close to defiling me
But magically, I was able to flee.

Now that I am forty, I am worried
As all my friends are getting married
Even the ones that were considered wayward
Have received the marriage award.

Some men dumped me for being a virgin
Others chided me in ways I cannot imagine
They say all sorts of things to get me upset
'Take it to the bank if you think it is an asset.'

Is virginity a limitation?
Does it hinder nuptial union?
Am I not married because I refused to surrender?
These questions and many more are making me wonder
