A Friend At Last... Poem by Kristen Brewster

A Friend At Last...

I thought it was useless
and gave up and wept
I thought I was garbage
and shut myself away
I thought myself ugly
and hid from the world

I thought all my friends had left
I was correct
I thought I was alone
except for one I would not listen to

Then your voice
that unfamiliar face smiling at me
I shied away, blushing
for I thought myself unworthy of your gaze
You new person
Silently sitting behind me
your gorgeous smile lingering
your beautiful voice burst forth
the song wrapping around me
how did I ever manage without ever meeting you?
A fairy tale I am swept into
will you be my new friend
and never leave like the others have?
Encourage me always...
but I will wait a week,
to see if we meet again.
I hope we will...
