A Friendly Walk Poem by David Wood

A Friendly Walk

Rating: 5.0

For many winters I have
Walked around the lake
Early to feed the woodland
Birds, the robins and blue tits

Get there first followed by
The hedge sparrows having
Spent their night shivering,
Blackbirds clear up the scraps.

In another section I find the
Two ravens waiting near the
Tree root I put their feed on,
They have me well trained.

Today a dog walker passed
Me with a ‘good morning' to
Which I repeated back to him
Somehow I knew that face

On the second lap he stopped
Me and said I know your face,
To which I replied, ‘I guess you
Probably know the dog better.'

To which he snapped his fingers
And said ‘yellow Labrador'!
Yep, he did remember her. I
Find this with every dog walker.

And this makes a morning walk,
So nice, the meetings, the chats,
The people you meet there, even
Fishermen who say ‘Hi.'
