A Good Story To Tell Poem by Francis Duggan

A Good Story To Tell

Rating: 2.5

The poor old bloke who searches through the trash bins for cans and for bottles to sell
Is as good as the highest achiever for he too has a story to tell
And maybe his story is better than many of those high on the social tree
For life to him has been a battle and he knows about poverty.

The old lady in the nursing home who sits looking out the window all day
She suffers the scourge of amnesia and her years show in wrinkles and gray
Still her life is a marvellous story and she bloomed like a rose in her prime
A rose who is losing her petals from the ravaging storms of time.

It's a known fact that Joe is a genius but out of his high
I.Q. he did not gain
As he suffers from manic depression and medication keeps him sane
Life for him has never been easy and he has been through mental hell
But he dreams of a better tomorrow and he has a good story to tell.

When I hear mention of ordinary people I ponder is there such a thing
For every woman a queen in her own way and every man in his own way a king
And if you've never harmed anybody then karma it will serve you well
And you are a successful person who has a good story to tell.

A rose who is losing her petals from the ravaging storms of time.
